Emotional health and wellbeing matters.

Hi I’m Jeanette. I’m a mum of four, homebirth advocate, doula, music teacher and researcher, and I love photography and the ocean.

Since having my first child, I have been on a journey of knowledge gathering, research into pregnancy and wellbeing, navigating my own birth trauma and learning to be a mother as well! My first pregnancy journey led me on a path of learning about myself and all the things I didn’t know about what I would face during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I found myself naive and overwhelmed by the system when my first baby was born. The message was ‘healthy mother, healthy baby’, and whilst my baby and I were deemed to be healthy after the birth, emotionally, I was not ok at all. After baby number two, a homebirth, the journey of healing began. But it was not until baby number four that I really understood the difference a positive birth experience could really make to my wellbeing.

I completed my PhD (based on cultural and social aspects of wellbeing in early childhood), just before baby number 4 was born and realised I really wanted to share the knowledge I’d gathered and advocate for better support for mums. Wellbeing for the child is so closely linked to the wellbeing of the mama, and mothers deserve more support.

Now I hope to share my knowledge gathered through research and experience to help others find their way to wellbeing in pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Emotional health and wellbeing matters, and every single mother deserves to feel honoured, respected and supported in the journey of motherhood.
